Buy high-quality low-pressure mixers tap online
In order to have hot water available at all times, a suitable mixer tap is of course indispensable. In many cases, it is necessary to install a so-called low-pressure fitting.
If you want to buy a new low-pressure mixer, you have come to the right place. In our range you will find a selection of different models that you can easily order online and have delivered.
The most important facts about low-pressure mixers at a glance
- When buying a new mixer tap, it is essential to know whether a high-pressure or low-pressure tap is required.
- If the water is heated in a boiler under the sink or washbasin, you need a low-pressure fitting.
- If there is a central water treatment system in the building, you will need a high-pressure fitting instead of a low-pressure fitting.
- Low-pressure fittings can be recognised, among other things, by the fact that they have three connections for the water hoses.
- It is not possible to install a high-pressure fitting although a low-pressure fitting is actually needed.
- Low-pressure fittings are available as single-lever and double-lever mixers or as sensor fittings.
- Although installing a low-pressure fitting is not too complicated, it can of course be done by a company.
- In our shop you will find a selection of high-quality low-pressure fittings that you can conveniently buy online.
Low-pressure mixer tap or high-pressure mixer?
If you need a new mixer tap for the bathroom or kitchen, there are a few things to consider when buying. Among other things, you will be faced with the question of whether you need a high-pressure or a low-pressure mixer. For trouble-free and safe operation of the mixer tap, it is crucial that you choose the right variant.
Because even if both types of mixer taps look almost identical at first glance, at least to laymen, they differ quite considerably from each other in some essential points. What these are and when a low-pressure mixer is the right choice are explained below.
What is a low-pressure fitting?
Low-pressure fittings are mixer taps. This means that they can be used to draw not only cold but also hot water from the tap. The mixing of hot and cold water takes place directly in the tap.
Mixing taps are available either as high-pressure taps or as low-pressure taps. As the name suggests, a low-pressure fitting is designed for low pressure. Low-pressure taps cannot be connected directly to existing hot and cold water connections on the wall.
When do you need a low-pressure fitting?
If there is no central water treatment, the cold water from the tap must first be heated in a boiler. To do this, it flows via the corresponding connection hose to the low-pressure fitting. If the tap is opened, the cold water can continue to flow to the boiler. There it displaces the heated water so that it can finally flow out of the low-pressure fitting.
Whether you need a low-pressure fitting is usually quite easy to tell from the number of water connections on the wall under the sink in the kitchen or under the washbasin in the bathroom. If there is only one connection for cold water, a low-pressure fitting is the right choice. In this case, you need a non-pressurised boiler to heat the water.
How do you recognise a low-pressure fitting?
It is not easy for laypeople to recognise a low-pressure mixer directly. However, this is not a problem if you look at the underside of the mixer tap. Low-pressure mixers have a total of three connections to which the hoses needed for installation are attached. High-pressure mixers, on the other hand, have only two connections.
It should therefore not be difficult for you to tell whether you are holding a high-pressure or a low-pressure fitting.
What is a high-pressure fitting?
The high-pressure fitting is also a mixer tap. Compared to the low-pressure fitting, however, it is designed for a significantly higher line pressure. High-pressure fittings are connected directly to the cold and hot water connections in the wall.
Today, high-pressure fittings are usually the norm. Accordingly, they are used much more frequently than low-pressure fittings. However, older buildings at least often do not have a central water treatment system, which is why they have to rely on a combination of low-pressure fittings and boilers for hot water.
Replace a low-pressure fitting with a high-pressure fitting?
You may be wondering whether you can replace your low-pressure tap with a high-pressure tap. However, the answer to this question is clearly no. In principle, it is not possible to use a high-pressure fitting as an alternative to a low-pressure fitting.
If you need a low-pressure fitting, you must therefore make absolutely sure that you buy a corresponding model. The same applies vice versa, of course.
Are a boiler and low-pressure tap absolutely necessary?
If, for example, you can do without hot water for the sink in your kitchen, it is of course also possible to install a simple cold water tap as an alternative. In this case, you need neither a boiler nor a low-pressure fitting suitable for it. At least if you have a dishwasher, this is quite conceivable, as you don't necessarily need hot water to wash the dishes.
Nevertheless, experience has shown that you will appreciate it in everyday life if hot water is available from the tap when you need it, without much effort. It therefore generally makes sense to give preference to the combination of boiler and low-pressure tap over a simple cold water tap. In the bathroom, of course, the latter is generally not recommended. After all, you probably don't want to wash with ice-cold water, at least in winter.
Low-pressure taps in different designs
Although high-pressure taps are considered standard, there is also quite a large selection of different models of low-pressure taps. When you buy your new low-pressure mixer, you can usually choose a mixer that meets your requirements and offers the desired range of functions without any problems.
Low-pressure mixers are available in the following designs, among others:
- Sensor mixers
- Single-lever mixers
- Two-lever mixer
Sensor fittings as low-pressure fittings
A sensor fitting is a mixer tap that is equipped with a motion sensor. To turn on the water, it is sufficient to hold your hands in front of it. This is particularly practical and especially hygienic if the mixer tap is to be used by several people, which is the case in public sanitary facilities, for example.
Sensor mixers are also available as low-pressure mixers if required. So if you need a low-pressure mixer due to the conditions on site, you can also install a mixer tap with a sensor without any problems if you want to.
Single-lever mixer refers to the way the mixer is operated. This is done with a single control element that can be used to regulate both the amount of water and the temperature.
This means that a single-lever mixer can be operated with just one hand, which is not only practical in everyday life, but can also help to use less water. Therefore, if you want an easy-to-use low-pressure tap, a single-lever mixer can definitely be a good choice for you.
Two-lever mixer as a low-pressure fitting
In addition to sensor mixers and single-lever mixers, you can also buy so-called two-lever mixers as low-pressure mixers. These are equipped with two separate controls, which probably shouldn't be too surprising given their name.
One controls the cold water and the other the hot water. This means that it sometimes takes a moment to set the desired water temperature. As a result, you will tend to use a little more water with such a low-pressure fitting. In addition, the operation is not quite as uncomplicated as with a single-lever mixer.
Nevertheless, two-lever mixers are quite popular, especially in the catering industry, and are accordingly often the first choice when it comes to installing a new high- or low-pressure fitting.
Connecting a low-pressure tap fitting
If you have some manual dexterity, installing a low-pressure fitting should not normally be too difficult. As already mentioned, low-pressure fittings are always equipped with three connections for water hoses, regardless of their exact shape.
One connection connects the low-pressure fitting to the water connection in the wall. The other two hoses are used to connect the faucet to the water heater so that, once installed, both hot and cold water can then flow from the faucet.
If you want to replace a broken low-pressure fitting, please remember to turn off the water first before removing the old fitting. If you are not confident installing the tap yourself, you can of course always contact a professional who will connect your low-pressure tap for you for a fee.
Dripping is normal with low-pressure taps
A dripping tap can be annoying. However, it is perfectly normal with low-pressure taps. Because, as you know for sure, water expands when it heats up. When the water in the boiler gets warm, this inevitably causes it to start dripping a little.
This can usually only be avoided by switching off the boiler and thus keeping the water cold. Apart from that, some low-pressure taps are also equipped with a special anti-drip function.
